SHUROLOK is a non-profit
music appreciation and performance group,
registered in Victoria. It serves as a
platform for training, appreciation and
performance of music, especially Bengali
music. It develops linkages between the
Bengali music performers/promoters and
wider Australian music learners, critics,
and performers and undertake joint programs
with various Australian and other community
forums, academic institutions and performing
and training groups. SHUROLOK celebrates
music and distinguished musicians and
introduce awards to honor contributions
of musicians, both in Australia and overseas.
It also participates as a group in various
concerts and functions, organized either
by itself or on invitation by other organizing
groups. SHUROLOK, as part of its mandate,
has organized a few music appreciation
and voice training workshops (albeit in
a small scale) and hopes to continue similar
activities on a regular basis. Our expenses
are met through membership fees, personal
donations, and sponsorships.
SHUROLOK's formal journey began in September
2006. SHUROLOK aims to cover its activities
involving wider spectrum of music. Together
with our friends in the greater Australian
community, gradually we hope to have the
variety and together we will learn how
music affects our lives everyday.
We invite members
to join our team who could assist with
newsletters, research from time to time,
organizing programs, graphics designs,
and performance. We need good listeners
who could tell us when things are not
going right, not just when we are all
doing well.
